Stick to the Word
The YouVersion Bible App is the most popular Bible for your Phone. It has multiple translations and cross references. The Search function is great for researching themes. It's a simple and accessible Bible with a growing number of languages.
The Bible Reading Plans and commentaries are mostly published by a particular sect and you should be weary of accepting everything they offer.

Translations include less common languages (great for African countries and sharing scripture during outreach to other nations).
Features such as the new Prayer item and Community allow you to connect and share your reading with your friends and family. Verse of the Day is also a great feature to prompt you into the Bible daily.

Stick to the Bible Text Only - they have a Study Bible but the commentary is not great. Go for the Bible only and enjoy the Word in an easy to listen to, professionally orchestrated version.
